Start Early.

Start building your child's healthy smile today!

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises visiting a pediatric dentist by your child’s first tooth or first birthday. Early visits focus on prevention and educating parents on oral hygiene, nutrition, and healthy habits for a lifetime of smiles. Our pediatric dentists offer personalized care based on your child’s age and behavior, ensuring a comfortable, non-traumatic experience.

When needed, our pediatric dentists provide recommendations and treatments tailored to your child’s age, cooperation level, and behavioral needs. We carefully consider these factors to ensure a stress-free, comprehensive, and comfortable dental experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Begin cleaning your baby’s gums with water and a clean cloth or infant toothbrush right from birth. Once the first tooth appears, brush twice daily using fluoride toothpaste and a soft toothbrush.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association recommend using a smear of toothpaste for children under 3 years old, and a pea-sized amount for children aged 3 to 6. Parents should encourage their children to spit out toothpaste as soon as they are old enough to do so.

Young children lack the manual dexterity to brush their teeth effectively. Parents should supervise their children’s brushing and flossing until they reach around 7 to 8 years old.

Parents are advised to take their baby to a pediatric dentist as soon as the first tooth appears, or by their first birthday. Pediatric dentists can identify early signs of tooth decay (cavities or caries) and provide valuable guidance on oral hygiene, facial development, nutrition, oral habits (such as pacifier use, thumbsucking, mouthbreathing), feeding practices, and fluoride needs.

Your child’s milk teeth, or baby teeth, help them chew and speak clearly while also reserving space for the permanent teeth developing underneath.

A cavity in baby teeth can spread to nearby tissues, causing pain and swelling. The infection may also damage the permanent tooth below or reach the nerve, potentially requiring a root canal later.

Tooth decay can start early, with one of the most common causes being Early Childhood Caries (formerly known as nursing caries or baby bottle tooth decay). Avoid putting your baby to sleep with a bottle of milk or juice. If your child needs a bottle or sippy cup at bedtime, fill it only with water. Be sure to brush and floss your child’s teeth regularly, and schedule visits with a pediatric dentist.

Rinse your child’s mouth with warm saltwater and apply a cold compress if there is swelling. Never apply aspirin directly to your child’s tooth. You can give your child the appropriate dose of over-the-counter pain relief medication. Contact your pediatric dentist immediately.

Dental sealants protect the grooves and pits on your child’s teeth by covering these crevices, preventing food debris from getting trapped and building up. The application is quick, painless, and can be done in a single visit.
